Visit my other blog

Well, I seem to have not used my photography blog as much as I had hoped. I realize though as I leave comments on everyone else's blog that it links you to this one and not the one that I really do use a lot. So, if you ended up here, take a look at photography, but then take a look at my other blog, www.pipandsqueak.com

Katherine loves her new zoo train. Today she was trying to make a pyramid of all the animals. It was so cute. As one would fall off, she would stack it onto the others.

I am a few days behind on my photo challenges. Wednesday's My Space Her Space challenge was to capture something "Alive". Katherine and I met some friends at the Dallas Arboretum for "Dallas Blooms". The theme this year is "Flower Power". That is why I have a picture of a flower covered VW bug.

Plastic

Today on Myspace: Herspace the photo theme is plastic. As a SAHM of a 1 year old, most of the plastic I see is of the toy variety. My daughter loves her peek a boo blocks.
I'd love CC - on the photo, not the dirty floor!

POTD - Blue

My favorite color is blue. This is a picture I took of my daughter who just turned one. She has the most beautiful blue eyes so I buy her a lot of blue clothes. So, she is often confused for a boy - even if the blue clothes have flowers or ruffles. This photo was taken on a our first trip of the season to the Arboretum. No flowers in this picture. It was Peek-A-Boo time.
55mm, 1/125, f/5.6, shutter priority, cloudy white balance
CC much apprectiated

More technology

My purse always has my cell phone and my palm in it. If for some reason one gets left at home charging, I feel lost for the day.

I say that these make my life easier, but it seems that my palm is also a source of frustration. Twice this week it has decided to freeze so that only a reset, erasing everything, would wake it up. Luckily I had just performed a hot sync a few days prior so I was not set back too far.

I know my photo is not great. I am trying to learn the dslr and am getting frustrated. I take the same photo with numerous settings and can't really tell a difference. I just don't know what the heck I am doing, I just turn the knob. So, I would love any cc and tips.

I don't know what order you all usually put all the details so I will post them all specifically. Photo taken with a Nixkon D50 in natural light. Shutter Priority. 38.0mm, .200s (1/5), f/9.0, white balance set to cloudy (oops, I forgot to look at that).

Photo transfer and storage

Now that I am taking many pictures a day of my sweet little girl using my new camera, I need quick ways to get the photos from my camera to my computer. I did not want to kill battery life by hooking the camera up to the computer so we have a USB drive for our SD card and a CF card reader. I also show our USB memory stick because that is how I often take pictures elsewhere to show or print. These make my life easier.

Things that make life easier #1

This weeks challenge is to take a picture of things that make your life easier. I will start out with my new washing machine which was my Christmas present. I really like my new front loading washer. It has so many more settings and options than my old washer. Our old washer was purchased by Sam as a bachelor and so it had little more than on and off. The problem was that I needed to wash things on gentle or delicate. Funny thing is, he had a lot of sweaters that had to be washed on the gentle cycle too. Our washer is also great since we use cloth diapers. I could not imagine having to hand wash those like my friend in Africa does.

My faith

This is a photo of a Bible, though not my Bible. I took it in a hotel room for promotional materials for a women's retreat for my church.

This represents a very important aspect of my life, my faith in Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.

I grew up in a Christian home, attending church every week. I "asked Jesus into my heart" as a 6 year old in Sunday School. While I believe that what I did was genuine, I know that it was a basic faith. In junior high I really made my relationship my own, not just something that was there because of my parents. I was lucky enough to attend a Christian school, and one that really did a great job of exposing us to the world and challenging us to think rather than keeping us in a protective bubble.

When I went to University, I was challenged in my faith, but encouraged by the opportunities to grow and be mentored. After I graduated, I participated in a one year discipleship program in Branson, Missouri. My faith was really challenged and stretched while there. I moved back home and taught for 9 years. Each summer I went on a mission trip. I went to Russia, Spain, Guatemala and Japan sharing the gospel, working with kids and the poor. It was a great experience.

Now that I am married and a mom, I am not able to go on mission trips but we are very involved in our church. We have been involved in a young married Sunday school class and community group and I have been on the board of the Women's Ministry. I also completed a Certificate Program at Dallas Theological Seminary.

My faith has helped me to get through some challenging times. I am thankful to the Lord for what he has done in my life. I am thankful that I live in a country where I am free to worship and study the Bible.

My daughter

I have wanted to be a stay at home mom for as long as I can remember. Finally, this is my job. My precious one year old loves her dog Hooligan. Hooligan will share her bones with Katherine and Katherine will share her Cheerios with Hooligan.
