My daughter

I have wanted to be a stay at home mom for as long as I can remember. Finally, this is my job. My precious one year old loves her dog Hooligan. Hooligan will share her bones with Katherine and Katherine will share her Cheerios with Hooligan.

Love of travel

This week we are supposed to take photos of things that describe us. Well, I LOVE to travel. I grew up traveling and took advantage of all of my vacation time as a teacher when I was single. Sam had not traveled as much, but in our four years of marriage I think I have given him the love of traveling. Together we have traveled internationally to England, Germany, France, Italy, Greece and Costa Rica. Domestically we have been to Seattle, Boston, Grand Canyon, Colorado, Orlando and California numerous times. Since having Katherine a year ago, our travel has changed. We have still been on 3 plane trips with her but they have mostly been to visit people, not sightsee.

This is my first photo of the day post where I am posting a photo that I took just for the challenge. The previous posts I have made were using pictures I already had in my files. The items behind the passport were all purchases made while traveling aroad. I am not super happy at how the photo turned out. I was trying to use natural light, but there was a glare on the wood of the nutcracker. I was trying to hurridly take photos while Katherine was screaming in the background refusing to nap. Luckily, she has finally fallen asleep.

2/26 Something Funny

Today's challenge is to photgraph something funny. This picture is of Katherine pretending to be her dog Hooligan. She found her leash and harness and repeatedly put it around her neck. Not the safest toy. Don't worry, we made sure that the harness and leash were put away where Katherine could not play with them.

2/25 Silver

Today's challenge is to take a picture of something silver. I did not have a chance to shoot something so I am pulling out a photo from a few weeks ago. I am in a Photography Connection Group at our church. Once a month we get together and take pictures. This month we went to the hotel where our women's retreat will be held in April in order to take pictures for the promotional materials. This picture of Megan was shot by looking into a mirror. Pretty cool.

2/23 Action

Today I have two actions shots. The first one was taken of Katherine swinging in our front yard. It was just as the sun was about to set so there was interesting light and shadows.

The second shot was taken when we were at Sam's parents house at Christmas. There is a school at the end of the street and we all went to get some wiggles out one afternoon. Sam is sliding with both Katherine and Emily. Don't you love Emily's hair?

A year in the life of a photographer

I have a new interest - photography. I got a new camera, a Nikon D50 for my birthday in September. I have had a blast taking a lot of pictures, mainly of my one year old Katherine. Most of my pictures have been taken in automatic mode because I have not learned how to take good pictures with all of the manual settings. This year I would really like to learn to take better pictures.

I have become addicted to looking at photographers' websites and blogs, expecially those who photograph children. I ran across a number of people who are participating in two different challenges. One is to take a photo a day. Some of the participants use the suggested challenges from the I Love Photography website. Another challenge is to take a photo a week using the themes below.

Since it is February 26th and I am just now joining in the fun, I probably will not have my blog listed as a link on other participant blogs and I may just do as many of the challenges as possible. My goal is to better my photography skills this year and to learn to use the many functions on my camera.

So, I am going to do my best to start this project, get caught up and finish it!!
